Kilchoman 100% Islay

Even as hardened fans of the iconic Scottish isle’s peatiest produce, the idea that some Islay Scotches out there aren’t, well, peaty enough, frankly boggles the palate.

But there you have it: the latest Kilchoman expression is hardly an everyday dram – apparently the first 100% Islay Scotch Whisky in a century, bottled at 50% ABV and priced a peat-infused whisker beneath the £70-mark – and yet whisky maven, Charles MacLean has described it as being rather mellow despite all this. We shall see…

So excited trepidation (is it really possible to have too much of a good thing?) not withstanding, our sipping glasses are eagerly a-polished, are ‘tasting tweeds’ back from the dry cleaners, and our bottle of Kilchoman Inaugural 100% Islay already on order. Is this love or madness or something in-between? Only time shall tell.
